Finally found an agency that doesn't take half my paycheck
After working with two large agencies, I switched to ProTherapy and immediately saw a $400/week increase in take-home pay for a comparable assignment. The owners are actual PTs who traveled themselves, so they understand the nuances of pay packages and tax homes in a way most recruiters don't. They handled all the compliance and credentialing seamlessly. My only note is they're smaller, so the volume of available contracts isn't as massive as the big agencies, but the pay difference more than makes up for it.

Solid company with great benefits but recruiter turnover is high
Fusion has been my go-to for most of my travel career. The pay is consistently competitive and the 401k matching is a nice perk. My biggest issue is recruiter turnover — I've had 3 different recruiters in 2 years. Each time you have to rebuild the relationship and re-explain your preferences. When you get a good recruiter, the experience is excellent. The online portal is well-designed and makes managing documents easy.

Perfect for my first travel assignment as a new grad
I was nervous about my first travel contract but Host made everything easy. My recruiter walked me through the entire process — licensing, housing, credentialing, everything. The day-one health insurance was a huge selling point since I was coming off my parents' plan. Pay was good but I've heard I could make more elsewhere. For my first contract, having the handholding support was worth more than an extra $100/week.

Bait and switch on pay, unresponsive recruiter
Was quoted $1,800/week take-home during the interview process. When I got my first paycheck it was $1,580. The explanation was that "benefits and compliance fees" were deducted but this was never disclosed upfront. My recruiter took days to respond to messages and couldn't explain the bill rate breakdown. I finished the contract and switched agencies immediately. Always get your pay package in writing before you sign.
